At Burn Legal Australia, we’re committed to providing clear, upfront pricing so businesses know exactly what to expect. We offer a mix of hourly rates, fixed fees, and monthly retainer packages tailored for employers needing practical, ongoing HR and employment law support. 


Whether you need help with a single issue or want a long-term HR legal partner, we have options built to suit your needs.


Our standard hourly rates (subject to change) are: 

  • $500 (plus GST) per hour for the Managing Principal, Rohan Burn 
  • $250 (plus GST) per hour for an Associate Lawyer

EMPLOYER RETAINER PACKAGES

Our monthly retainers are designed for employers who want immediate access to employment law advice and ongoing support. 

Each plan includes “blended time” - meaning hours can be used interchangeably by the Managing Principal or Associate, depending on the work required.


Both packages include support with:

  • Drafting, reviewing and updating employment contracts
  • Creating and updating HR and workplace policies
  • Award coverage, classification and pay-rate advice
  • Termination, performance management and disciplinary processes
  • Representation in Court or Fair Work Commission matters 
  • Ongoing HR compliance reviews


Employers can use the retainer hours as they see fit (including immediately for urgent issues such as defending an unfair dismissal or general protections claim). We also offer a structured first 90-day implementation phase, which can include:

  • Reviewing/drafting employment contracts.
  • Reviewing/drafting workplace policies. 
  • Award mapping and interpretation
  • Workplace behaviour training.

SME Employment Compliance Plan

 $2,250 (plus GST) per month for 5 hours of legal work


Ideal for employers with fewer than 15 employees who need reliable HR and employment support but don’t have an internal HR function.


Features include:

  • 5 hours of blended lawyer time per month
  • Additional time charged at a 10% discounted hourly rate
  • Clear, structured support for day-to-day HR issues
  • Regular updates about legal developments that impact your business
  • Fast response times and priority scheduling

 

Perfect for businesses wanting to stay compliant, manage staff effectively, and reduce legal risk.

Enterprise HR Legal Partner Plan

$4,000 (plus GST) per month for 10 hours of legal work


Designed for larger or scaling employers needing regular, strategic HR legal support. This package is suitable for businesses managing more complex employment issues, turnover, restructures, or ongoing disputes.


Features include:

  • 10 hours of blended lawyer time per month
  • Additional time charged at a 20% discounted hourly rate
  • Regular support on contracts, policies, disputes, and performance issues
  • Advice and representation in legal proceedings 
  • Proactive compliance and award guidance
  • Fast response times and priority scheduling

 

Making or defending unfair dismissal or general protections

Fixed fee: $4,000 (plus GST), up to and including conciliation conference and settlement

This fixed fee option is available to employees and employers, and covers all our work up to and including the Fair Work Commission conciliation conference, including:

  • Taking instructions and reviewing materials
  • Drafting and filing the unfair dismissal or general protections application or response 
  • Correspondence with FWC and other parties 
  • Advice on prospects and strategy for conciliation 
  • Representing you at the conciliation conference, including by making a strong opening statement and then leading negotiations
  • Finalising any settlement terms agreed at conciliation


Fees are invoiced after conciliation (or at the end of the relevant month if part of an employer retainer package) 

If the matter does not resolve at conciliation, any further work is billed at our standard hourly rates.
